Trained as a Class 3 Field Survey Technician at the Army Apprentice College, Chepstow.
Upgrading course to Class 2 Topographic Survey Technician at Royal School of Military Survey.
Completed Class 1 Topographic Survey Technician at Royal School of Military Survey.
Operations and Training Manager at 42 Engineer Regiment (Geographic)
December 2008 - November 2010 | Moenchengladbach, NRW, Germany
Organised and facilitated both military and technical training within a busy, operational military geographic unit, including liaison with external units and organisations.
o Administration of personnel deploying and recovering from external training courses and operations.
o Expedited pre-deployment training for personnel nominated to go on operations in Afghanistan.
o Planned and successfully conducted a survey of a military range area in the Czech Republic. The task involved training, coaching and mentoring a team of 8 inexperienced personnel to carry out the survey in unfamiliar surroundings.
Geospatial Support Section Manager at Task Force Helmand
October 2009 - 2010 | Afghanistan
Managed an extremely busy cell in Afghanistan for 7 months, providing geospatial support to the whole of Task Force Helmand (approx. 9000 personnel), in an exceptionally dynamic and demanding environment.
o Designed and facilitated specific to role training and mentoring of junior Geographic Technicians.
o Controlled the movement of personnel and distribution of supplies to a number of remote outstations, in very challenging circumstances.
o Successfully negotiated uplift in personnel and a 100% increase in real estate, despite extremely tight constraints, which significantly improved working conditions and productivity.
IT Support Technician at UK Ministry of Defence
October 2005 - December 2008 | Newbury, Berkshire
Provided hardware and software support for a fleet of military Geographic Information System PCs, including those deployed overseas and on operations.
o Passed Comptia A+ and N+ courses with and completed MCSE Part 1 and 2 training, qualifying as an IT Support Technician, despite being out of specialism.
o Supported a fleet of IT systems and peripherals, ranging from PCs to large laser scanners, for approximately 100 users, both in house, and deployed on exercises and operations, in the UK, Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan, often in very difficult conditions.
Survey Team Leader at 42 Engineer Regiment (Geographic)
2004 - October 2005
Managed military Geographic Technicians, planning and executing topographic surveys in Germany and overseas. Training of personnel and maintenance of equipment, as well as direct supervision and quality assurance of surveys.
o Planned and carried out surveys of the boundary line of the British administered Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus. Co-ordination of reconnaissance, survey and re-construction teams in order to check over 300 boundary pillars and reconstruct any that had been damaged or destroyed.
o Carried out a survey of Eben-Emael Fort in Belgium. The survey data enabled creation of a 3D model of the fort, which was then used as part of a battlefield tour training package.
